Cause: The Card Reader's transmit speed
is too fast. If you are using a USB Adaptor (Non-ID Innovations) this is a
common problem because USB Adaptors are not prepared to handle the data as fast
as the Card Reader can transmit.
Solution:
Slow down the transmit speed on the
reader. Use Windows notepad to repeatedly swipe credit cards to verify
that the data is received the same, each time the card is read.
Note: If you are using Fedex Ship Manager
software you will need to set the Transmit speed to about 3. Fedex Ship
Manager has a tendency to eat keyboard keystrokes in applications when it is
running in the background. If you find this hard to believe, try typing some
words on the computer as fast as you can. You will notice that some of the
keystrokes do not come through. It is for this reason that you must slow
down the transmit speed on the reader to a 3.
Programming with
the Keyboard
Steps: With your keyboard connected to the card
reader and using Windows notepad or
some other program you can type in, follow these steps:
-
<Left Ctrl>
<3> <Right Shift> <Enter>
-
The reader will issue a
series of beeps indicating that it has been reprogrammed. Each time you press
this key combination the reader will slow down the transmit speed. Once
the speed has hit the slowest it will put the speed at the fastest and begin
to slow it down again for subsequent keypresses.
- Test
your card output in Windows
notepad, if this did not fix the issue then repeat the key combination and retest
until the speed is sufficiently slowed to properly transmit the card
data.

Programming with the Universal Programmers
Software
Steps: After downloading and installing the Universal
Programmer software, you will want to run it and follow the steps
below:
-
Press F1 to display the
Interface settings dialog.
-
Use the Tab key or the
mouse to position the cursor over the Transmit Speed settings
-
At this point you can
simply type in the new transmit speed, higher is slower, or use the up down
arrows on the window to change it
-
Once you get the
Transmit speed set to the setting you desire Click on the Ok button to save in
memory.
-
If
the software does not prompt you to send the configuration to the reader you
may click on the Send button on the Toolbar or you may choose the Send
Configuration option from the File menu. The reader will beep and you
will see a progress bar run across the window indicating that the
configuration is being sent to the reader.
-
Test your card output in
Windows notepad, if this did not fix the issue then repeat Steps 1 through 4
but increase the transmit speed value each
time.
