My reader does a strange high-low beep and does not output my card data

Cause: The Card Reader is configured to send field data and not track data.  The reader was unable to find the ACCT # and EXP DATE fields in the data that was read.

Solution: For most credit card applications, configure the Card Reader to require Track 2.  In other applications, configure the Card Reader to send TRACK DATA instead of FIELD DATA.

Changing the Require Track 2 option

Steps: With your keyboard connected to the card reader and using Windows notepad or some other program you can type in follow these steps:

  1. <Left Ctrl> <CapsLock> <Right Shift> <Backspace>  This will display the prompt "Press F1-F10 for options"
  2. Now press the F2 key and press the Down Arrow key until the reader displays "Require Tracks:"
  3. Press the right arrow until the option displays the proper required track 2.
  4. Now press and hold down the following keys: <Left Ctrl> <Escape> and release both keys.  This will display the message "Setup Complete Changes saved".
  5. Test your card output in Windows notepad
