transmit card data on RS232 port

The PS/2 card reader can be paired with a RS232-25Y or RS232-9F Serial convertor.  When connected to the serial convertor all data coming from the reader will be transmitted to the serial port.  In order for the reader to properly transmit the data through the serial convertor it will need to be configured for Serial Output with the proper Baud Rate, Parity, Stop Bits, Data Bits etc.

Steps: Plug the card reader into the PS/2 port on a PC and connect a PS/2 keyboard to the KB part of the cable. Start Windows notepad or some other program that can receive and display keyboard keystrokes.

  1. Press <Left Control><CapsLock><Right Shift><Backspace> to enter setup mode, the reader will type "Press F1-F10 for options"
  2. Press F1 to enter the Interface settings on the reader.
  3. Press Down Arrow until you see "Output Mode: Keyboard Wedge" displayed on the screen.
  4. Press Right Arrow until the prompt reads "Output Mode: Serial"
  5. Press Down Arrow to configure the Serial Baud Rate with the Right Arrow keys.
  6. Press Down Arrow to configure the Serial Data Bits with the Right Arrow keys.
  7. Press Down Arrow to configure the Serial Partity with the Right Arrow keys.
  8. Press Down Arrow again to configure the Serial Duplex settings with the Right Arrow keys.
  9. Press Down Arrow to configure the Serial Data Format settings with the Right Arrow keys.
  10. Press <Left Control> <Escape> to exit setup mode and save changes.

Note: You will need to match these settings in whatever program you will be using to receive the serial data.
