The PS/2 card reader can be
paired with a RS232-25Y or RS232-9F Serial convertor. When connected to
the serial convertor all data coming from the reader will be transmitted to the
serial port. In order for the reader to properly transmit the data through
the serial convertor it will need to be configured for Serial Output with the
proper Baud Rate, Parity, Stop Bits, Data Bits etc.
Steps: Plug the card reader into the PS/2 port on
a PC and connect a PS/2 keyboard to the KB part of the cable. Start Windows
notepad or some other program that can receive and display keyboard
keystrokes.
- Press <Left
Control><CapsLock><Right Shift><Backspace> to enter setup
mode, the reader will type "Press F1-F10 for options"
- Press F1 to enter the Interface settings on the
reader.
- Press Down Arrow until you see "Output Mode:
Keyboard Wedge" displayed on the screen.
- Press Right Arrow until the prompt reads "Output
Mode: Serial"
- Press Down Arrow to configure the Serial Baud Rate
with the Right Arrow keys.
- Press Down Arrow to configure the Serial Data Bits
with the Right Arrow keys.
- Press Down Arrow to configure the Serial Partity
with the Right Arrow keys.
- Press Down Arrow again to configure the Serial
Duplex settings with the Right Arrow keys.
- Press Down Arrow to configure the Serial Data
Format settings with the Right Arrow keys.
- Press <Left Control> <Escape> to exit
setup mode and save changes.
Note: You will need to match these settings in
whatever program you will be using to receive the serial
data.
