My card will not read

Cause: The magnetic read head is dirty.


Solution: Clean the magnetic head.  Cleaning cards are available that will allow you to easily clean the magnetic head.  If you wish to purchase cleaning cards either contact your reseller or give us a call at (817) 285-8772.


 - OR -


Cause: The Card Reader does not have the tracks enabled to read your card.

Solution: Reconfigure the reader to enable any disabled tracks.

Steps: After downloading and installing the Universal Programmer software, you will want to run it and follow the steps below:

  1. Press F2 to display the Magstripe settings dialog.
  2. Use the Tab key or the mouse to position the cursor over the Enable Tracks settings
  3. At this point you can simply click on the appropriate setting for the tracks that you want to enable or you may use the up and down arrow keys to cycle between the options.
  4. Once you get the setting you desire Click on the Ok button to save in memory.
  5. If the software does not prompt you to send the configuration to the reader you may click on the Send button on the Toolbar or you may choose the Send Configuration option from the File menu.  The reader will beep and you will see a progress bar run across the window indicating that the configuration is being sent to the reader.

 - OR -

Cause: The Card Reader model that you are using is not the correct model for your card.

Cause: Your card is not properly oriented in the reader.


Solution: Orient the card with the stripe facing the LED on the reader.


 - OR -


Cause: The data format on your card is not an ANSI/ISO standard.


Solution: Call to see if a firmware update is available to read your card format @ (817) 285-8772.


 - OR -


Cause: Your card has a damaged or unreadable stripe.


Solution: Your card needs to be reissued.


 - OR -


Cause: The Card Reader is damaged or is no longer functioning properly.


Solution: Call technical support for assistance @ (817) 285-8772.


 - OR -


Cause: Weak signal on card.


Solution: Swipe the card faster.
