My reader does a strange high-low beep and does not output my card data

Cause: The Card Reader is configured to send field data and not track data. The reader was unable to find the ACCT # and EXP DATE fields in the data that was read.

Solution: For most credit card applications, configure the Card Reader to require Track 2. In other applications, configure the Card Reader to send TRACK DATA instead of FIELD DATA.

Changing the Require Track 2 option

Steps: After downloading and installing the Universal Programmer software, you will want to run it and follow the steps below:

Press F2 to display the Magstripe settings dialog.
Use the Tab key or the mouse to position the cursor over the Require Tracks settings
At this point you can simply click on the setting for requiring Track 2 or you may use the up and down arrow keys to cycle between the options to set it to Track 2.
Once you get the setting you desire Click on the Ok button to save in memory.
If the software does not prompt you to send the configuration to the reader you may click on the Send button on the Toolbar or you may choose the Send Configuration option from the File menu. The reader will beep and you will see a progress bar run across the window indicating that the configuration is being sent to the reader.

Changing the Data Output Mode (TRACK DATA)

Steps: After downloading and installing the Universal Programmer software, you will want to run it and follow the steps below:

Press F1 to display the Interface settings dialog.

Use the Tab key or the mouse to position the cursor over the Data Output Mode settings

At this point you can simply click on the setting for TRACK DATA or you may use the up and down arrow keys to cycle between the options to set it to TRACK DATA.

Once you get the setting you desire Click on the Ok button to save in memory.

If the software does not prompt you to send the configuration to the reader you may click on the Send button on the Toolbar or you may choose the Send Configuration option from the File menu.
