output a single track only

Some credit card processing and accounting software expect a single track of data form credit cards and as such require that only that single track be transmitted when the card is read.  For example to set the card reader to Track 2 only follow these steps.

PS/2 Interface

Steps: With your keyboard connected to the card reader and using Windows notepad or some other program you can type in follow these steps:

  1. <Left Ctrl> <CapsLock> <Right Shift> <Backspace>  This will display the prompt "Press F1-F10 for options"
  2. Now press the F2 key and the reader will prompt "Enable Tracks: " 
  3. Press the right arrow until the option displays "Enable Tracks: 2" for Track 2 only. 
  4. Now press and hold down the following keys: <Left Ctrl> <Escape> and release both keys.  This will display the message "Setup Complete Changes saved".
  5. Test your card output in Windows notepad to verify that you set the option properly.  When the card data is transmitted to the computer it will begin with a ; for Track 2 data.

USB Interface

Steps: After downloading and installing the Universal Programmer software, you will want to run it and follow the steps below:

  1. Press F2 to display the Magstripe settings dialog.
  2. Use the Tab key or the mouse to position the cursor over the Enable Tracks setting and set it to 2. 
  3. Once you get the setting Click on the Ok button to save in memory.
  4. If the software does not prompt you to send the configuration to the reader you may click on the Send button on the Toolbar or you may choose the Send Configuration option from the File menu.  The reader will beep and you will see a progress bar run across the window indicating that the configuration is being sent to the reader.
  5. Test your card output in Windows notepad to verify that you set the option properly.  When the card data is transmitted to the computer it will begin with a ; for Track 2 data.
